BEST Eye Care Provider, Fauquier
Dr. Samuel Weir, Dr. Shannon Moore, and Dr. Lisa Butterfield aim to always put their patients first. Together, they form a very popular private practice in a cozy office setting which puts patients at ease, where they focus on providing personal attention and exceptional eye care to all their patients. “Our goal is to give affordable, high-quality eye care,” said Dr. Samuel Weir.
This practice, which has been serving the community since 1979, offers a full range of optometrical services, and then some. To start with, they provide comprehensive exams, Lasik and cataract evaluations, glasses frames and lenses, contact lenses, pediatric eye exams and care, and emergency services. Beyond that, the doctors are also able to treat eye infections, glaucoma, remove foreign bodies from the eye, co-manage LASIK and cataract surgery, monitor for progression of macular degeneration, and more. For eye surgeries, they have relationships with the most qualified opthamologists to refer patients to, and are able to co-manage post-surgical care.
Dr. Weir prizes his staff, from office and support staff to optometrists, who he selects to be friendly, personable, outgoing, and patient-centered. “Fortunately we have a lot of stability here. I have been here almost 40 years, and Dr. Moore has been here 13 years, and Dr. Butterfield, three years. We look for people who are, first of all, board certified, but personality is also very important, and our doctors must be able to make the patient feel comfortable in the chair.” With a scope of patients from toddler to over 100, all three doctors are proficient in working with all ages of patients.
The practice has a very loyal client base. Some families have been visiting Dr. Weir for three generations, and his patients come from near and far. “We have patients that come from as far away as Maryland and southwestern Virginia. I guess it’s because they get good treatment here. Some patients have insurance plans we don’t accept, and they’ll still come in, and then file the paperwork on their own. I started here in ‘79, and some patients have been with us for over 30 years. Winning best of Warrenton in past years is a recognition from the public that we’re doing a pretty good job. It’s nice,” said Dr. Weir.
Being part of, and supporting, the community is very important to Dr. Weir. “I’m very community-oriented, I’ve been with several organizations in town. We’ve lived here for 40 years, and I think it’s really important to give back to the community.” The practice supports four nonprofit charities: Wounded Warriors, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Infantsee, under which they provide free eye exams to infants, and Remington Lions Club, which collects and distributes eyeglass frames to those in need.
Dr. Weir says of his practice: “We provide very personalized care: we spend time with the patients and get to know them during their exams. We are as thorough as possible. We’re not just trying to sell a pair of eyeglasses. We have the trust of our patients, and that is very valuable to us.”
