UVA Community Credit Union is pleased to announce Samantha Black has been named community relations specialist. Her new position focuses on financial education programs, sponsorships, and donations as well as participating in community partner events specifically in Fauquier, Culpeper, Orange, and Rappahannock counties.
Black has worked in financial services for the last eight years, and was recently the branch manager at the credit union’s branch in Warrenton, where she helped many members achieve their financial goals one-on-one. Now, as a community relations specialist, she coordinates larger education opportunities for the entire community including: financial education programs for local schools, seminars at the credit union, and for local employers through the credit union’s CU @ Work program. She also manages local sponsorships, donations, and is on the credit union’s scholarship review committee that annually awards a total of $27,000 to 18 high school students in its field of membership.
“During my time as branch manager I saw firsthand how our community relations programs directly impacts our members. I am passionate about helping our members, and the community-at-large, and am excited to share my knowledge of our products and services through financial education and sponsorship opportunities,” said Black.
As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, Black will identify opportunities and execute initiates that will allow UVA Community Credit Union to contribute to help meet the social, moral and economic needs of the communities it serves.
Fiona Waln is an accomplished UVA Community Credit Union employee who was recently named branch manager of the credit union’s Blackwell Road branch. As branch manager, Waln is responsible for day-to-day operations of the branch as well as business development, business relations, and personnel development.
Waln has 25 years of experience in the financial industry. She began her career as a teller and has held numerous positions including: loan processor, loan officer, assistant branch manager, branch manager, and EFT processor. Most recently, she was the branch manager of the credit union’s Vint Hill branch.
“Fiona has done an outstanding job serving members in our Vint Hill branch and we are thrilled she will continue to serve Fauquier County at our branch on Blackwell Road. In addition to serving members in the branch, Fiona will remain active outside the branch with the Credit Union’s CU @ Work program that provides affordable financial services to employees of local businesses,” said Alison DeTuncq, President/CEO of UVA Community Credit Union.
“I am excited about the opportunity to continue to serve our members in Fauquier County. It is my pleasure to help my friends, neighbors, and fellow community members navigate the process of purchasing a home, starting a business, saving for college, and planning for retirement,” said Waln.
