This special annual event offers rare opportunities to see many sites as they may have looked at the time of the war.

This year, Civil War sites throughout the Winchester-Frederick-Clarke County area will once again join together to provide unique opportunities to experience the area’s remarkable wartime story. Click on the image above to view more information and the weekend schedule. 


Saturday, August 17
Discovery Day at Luray Caverns
970 US Highway 211 West, Luray | All day

Join the annual Discovery Day celebration and take a special Grand Illumination Tour, where guides dressed in period costumes lead you through candlelit sections of the caverns and tell about the discovery of this wondrous landmark here in Luray, Virginia. Amidst the magic of the caverns, you may be surprised at what you yourself will discover. Fireworks will cap off the day at dusk.

Clear the Shelters at the Prince William County Animal Shelter
14807 Bristow Road| 10am – 4pm

The Prince William County Animal Shelter will be participating in the 5th Annual Clear the Shelters event. Adoption fees will be WAIVED through funding from the Prince William SPCA “Friends of the Shelter” program. Complimentary spay/neuter surgeries will also be provided for unaltered animals. The Prince William SPCA P.A.W. Express adoption van will be in the parking lot showcasing even more shelter animals for the community to meet. Each adopter will receive a free goodie bag.

Wayne Henderson & Helen White live at Gloria’s
92 Main Street Suite 104, Warrenton | 8 – 10pm

The Gloria Faye Dingus Music Alliance is pleased to welcome Wayne Henderson and Helen White to Gloria’s Listening Room. Wayne Henderson is a National Heritage Award recipient honored for his craftsmanship as a luthier and his renowned finger-style Appalachian guitar playing. His instruments are coveted worldwide and he sports a long waiting list for his guitars, mandolins, and banjos. A singer, fiddler, guitarist and tunesmith, Helen White has toured extensively with Wayne in the U.S. and Europe. Her compositions include works for theater and video projects as well as a Booklist honored recording of original songs for children.

Discover: Theatre at Allegro Community School for the Arts
39 Culpeper Street, Warrenton | 10am – 12pm

Get a taste of Allegro’s theatre, dance, and music classes through the FREE combination class.

Students will travel through instructional stations of music and dance. At the end of the workshop, the acting coach will incorporate the pieces to be performed together and for the parents at the end.

Maddi Mae at the Farm Brewery
16015 John Marshall Highway, Haymarket | 1 – 4pm

Indie-folkish songwriter Maddi Mae hides in the quiet corners of Virginia. Her sound is one part dark, dissonant, and heavy and another part romantic, airy, and delicate. Combining classic country, folk, and indie rock influences, Maddi Mae’s sound is reverb-heavy guitar (fingerstyle and big, sometimes jazzy, open-ended chords) and a distinct voice that is powerful, dynamic, haunting, and yet sweet at the same time. She released her debut 2-song EP Too Good to Be True / Sunshine on April 6th, 2019. Fresh back from five weeks traveling the country, she has new songs and stories to share.

Sip & Paint Event with Orchard Branch
Philip Carter Winery | 4366 Stillhouse Road, Hume | 11am or 2:30pm

Create a wine country sign from a Philip Carter Winery barrel stave, even if you have no experience! The folks at Orchard Branch provide all the necessary supplies and instruction, and you take home your own masterpiece! 

Each 2.5 hour event starts at only $35 and includes all art supplies, an awesome staff, and a lot of fun. Of course, it wouldn’t be a party without libations–Philip Carter will have our award-winning wines ready and available for purchase by the glass or bottle when you arrive!  

Don’t worry! Absolutely NO art experience is necessary! Kim Wilson, the artist of the Orchard Branch Collection, will walk you through every step of your creative process!
