Egg-stravaganza from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Sky Meadows State Park, Delaplane
Eggs galore at Sky Meadows State Park. Visit the egg-laying free-range chickens while enjoying the Chicken Walk. Go on a Geocache adventure and discover how bird, reptile and amphibians’ life cycles begin with an egg. Kids, use scavenger hunting skills to find candy-filled eggs with the help of clues from a story about Harriet, a fictional account from a young girl in the 1840s. Lastly, follow your nose to our Log Cabin for an egg-tastic hearth cooking demonstration, and stop by the Carriage Barn to craft a unique dyed egg using natural wax and dyes. Easter Celebration beginning at 12:00 p.m. and egg hunt at 3:00 p.m.
Location: The Farm Brewery at Broad Run, Broad Run
Celebrate Easter and meet Hops the bunny. Picture taking will occur at 1:00 p.m. and a hunt will take place at 3:00 p.m.. For children who locate the Golden Eggs, a special prize will be given to both the child and parent. Please bring your own baskets. Bring your favorite basket and enjoy this adventure for all ages. Along with the egg hunt, there will be other activities for participants to enjoy. Grow Your Own Mushrooms
Location: Schoolhouse #18 Demonstration Gardens, Marshall
This hands-on workshop presented by longtime local mushroom enthusiast Donn Smith, who will walk you through all the steps necessary to inoculate your own log with edible shiitake mushroom spawn. Participants will take home their own log and to watch the mushrooms grow and harvest. Participation is limited, registration and pre-payment are required. Register by mailing or dropping off a check payable to Fauquier County Master Gardener Association. The “Grow Your Own Mushrooms” presentation is part of the Fauquier and Rappahannock Master Gardeners’ Saturday Afternoons in the Garden program, a series of horticultural classes held from spring to fall each year for the community.
