The Leigh Family: Facing more than a family should have to face

Nov. 2 Fundraiser for the Leigh Family

Meet the Leigh family: parents Taylor and Heather, Kaleb (14), Noah (12), and Hannah (8), an ordinary family with an extraordinary story of strength and courage. By the end of 2017, Kaleb was in remission after two battles with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia when Noah was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. The medications Noah needed were extremely costly, and our community rallied around them in every way possible, from dinner fundraisers, GoFundMe, and even a “Green Day” where everyone wore his favorite color. Perhaps the largest local fundraiser was BeLEIGHve Fest, held in September 2018, just days after Noah received a cancer free diagnosis. This event was truly a celebration for the Leighs and all those who attended.

In June this year, after 10 months of living in quiet and calm, Taylor and Heather shared the devastating news that Kaleb’s cancer was back for the third time. While two pediatric cancer diagnoses in the same family is rare, the Leighs found themselves once again taking a path no parents should ever have to, yet this was their fourth. At this time, they are with Kaleb in Philadelphia for aggressive treatment.

Once again, our community is stepping up to support them, and you can be a part of it. On Saturday, November 2from 12-7 p.m., a holiday event “We Still BeLEIGHve” will be held at Kettle Run High School where Kaleb attends. Santa will be there meeting with the children with the opportunity for professional photographs for a donation. Mrs. Claus will be there helping with cookie decorating, and the auxiliary gym will be filled with bounce houses for the kids. Listen to live music all day from local bands such as The Elizabeth Lawrence Band and Pete’s Unnamed Band (PUB) as well as the KRHS Choir and the Ritchie Singing Eagles. Come prepared to do some holiday shopping with the 20+ vendors that will be set up in the commons area, and bring your appetite because there will be food trucks set up outside. The silent auction will have something for everyone, from books, toys, gift certificates, and vacations to autographed memorabilia from Robert Duvall. Bring cash for some incredible raffle items. Tickets may be purchased through EventBrite in advance for $20 (adults) and $10 (children). Children 2 and under may attend for free. Adult tickets at the door will be $30. All funds raised will go directly to the Leigh family. There are still opportunities for sponsorships, donations and volunteers; for more information, please visit “BeLEIGHve Fundraiser Support” on Facebook, and to follow their personal story, look for “BeLEIGHve” also on Facebook. Together, let’s show the Leighs that our little community can make a BIG difference!
