First Annual Old Town Warrenton Gingerbread House Competition

Christmas in Warrenton, always so magical to begin with thanks to Gum Drop Square and the Christmas Parade, is about to become even more magical. As you stroll through Old Town Warrenton this holiday season, you’ll be treated to the results of the First Annual Gingerbread House Contest, hosted by Gateau Bakery and Tea House and sponsored by TTR Sotheby’s agents Jen Kitner and Chris Malone of The Plains. The winning gingerbread houses will be displayed in the store windows of Old Town merchants during December, and the best news is that there’s still time for yours to be one of them! Could Christmas in Warrenton get any cuter?

First:

Register by November 12th.
Visit https://insidenovatix.com/events/first-annual-old-town-warrenton-gingerbread-house-competition and register to participate. You can enter as an individual or as a team. Make it a family effort or get your book club involved. Contests are always more fun with friends! This is supposed to be fun…you don’t have to be a professional, all levels of expertise welcome!

Second:

Create your confection.
The word “house” is used loosely; any structure is welcome! Consider a picturesque stable, a boathouse, a castle, your grandmother’s cottage, or even a replica of one of Warrenton’s historic buildings! The possibilities are endless and the only requirements are that the main structure must be made of gingerbread, and all the ingredients used must be edible. For more details and specifications, visit https://insidenovatix.com/events/first-annual-old-town-warrenton-gingerbread-house-competition

Third:

Let the contest commence!
Friday, November 16th: Deliver your confection to the First Baptist Church, 39 Alexandria Pike in Old Town Warrenton between 2pm – 6pm

Saturday, November 17th: Professional judging takes place between 7am-9am*

Saturday and Sunday, November 18th and 19th: Attend the public viewing of all entries and cast your vote in the People’s Choice Awards between 10am-3pm

*Entries will be judged on overall appearance, originality, creativity, difficulty, and precision, and handmade decorations will carry more weight than prefabricated items. Decisions of the judges is final.

Prizes! Prizes! Prizes! Adult/Team Category: $500, Teen Category: $200

But wait, there’s more!
In December, the People’s Choice Awards Contest will move online and voters will be able to visit our website, see photos of all the Gingerbread Houses entered, and vote for their favorite. The winner will be announced December 23rd.
